What security features does the app have?

Mia Wealth takes security seriously. Money and investments are not held by Mia Wealth directly. Cash is held in a ring-fenced account by our FCA regulated custodian, Seccl (part of Octopus Group who manage £12bn+ in assets). Seccl is trusted by leading firms, including Monzo, to power secure investments at scale.

Additional security features include: biometric login (Face ID / Touch ID), optional app passcode, encryption and secure storage, secure connections (HTTPS + Certificate Pinning), automatic session timeouts, secure password reset, two factor authentication support and short lived log in tokens.

Congratulations! We are wishing you all the best for your safe arrival. A Junior Stocks and Shares ISA and Junior Pension can be opened once your child is born as we need to know their name and date of birth. We look forward to welcoming you soon!

There’s no “right” amount – and looking after your family’s finances today matters just as much as planning for their future. Before investing, it can be sensible to make sure you have enough accessible savings for unexpected costs and consider your other financial priorities too. When you feel ready, you don’t need a big lump sum to get started. With Mia, parents can start from £20 as a one-off contribution or £20 a month, and family and friends can gift from £10. You can choose an amount that feels manageable now and change your monthly contribution as life and your finances change.

Remember, money invested in a Junior Stocks & Shares ISA or Junior Pension belongs to your child and can’t be withdrawn by you, so only invest money you’re comfortable putting aside for their future.

Money invested in a Junior Stocks & Shares ISA and Junior Pension belongs to the child, so you can’t withdraw it once it has been contributed.

With a Junior Stocks & Shares ISA, a child takes control when they turn 18. They can then choose whether to stay invested, make changes or withdraw some or all of their money.

A Junior Pension is different. Your child takes ownership of it when they become an adult, but the money remains invested for their retirement and generally can’t be accessed until they reach the minimum pension age that applies to them, set by the UK government.

When children reach adulthood, we don’t want to simply hand over their investments and leave them to figure it out. We’re planning for the sister version of our app, designed for young adults, to be ready in 2027. It will help them understand what they have, their options and the value of continuing their investing journey – giving them the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about the financial head start you’ve helped build.

Mia charges a 0.5%pa platform fee to cover the cost of providing and administering your Junior Stocks & Shares ISA, including custody, transactions and fund dealing.

Your investment manager Fidelity or Aviva Investors charges a fund fee of 0.12%pa or 0.15%pa respectively to cover the costs of managing your child’s investments. This is built into the value of the investment, rather than being charged separately.

We believe investing for your child’s future should feel simple, fair and easy to understand – including knowing what it costs.

Want to see how Mia’s fees compare with other providers? View our fee comparison table on our website here.

Yes, you can open a separate Mia account for each of your children with their very own investment pot (Junior Stocks & Shares ISA). All of your children will be visible on your home screen in our app.

Our app is designed as a mobile-first experience and currently supports both iOS and Android smartphones. You can download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store on any modern iPhone or Android phone that meets standard OS requirements. While the app may work on some tablets, we recommend using a mobile device for the best experience.

While we don’t offer financial advice, we’re here to support and guide you every step of the way through financial education including expert-led articles and easy-to-follow videos.

Our customer support team is also available Monday to Friday 9am – 5.30pm available in-app or email support@miawealth.co.uk.

We’re here to help you grow your children’s wealth by making investing accessible and easy to understand, so you can make informed decisions that work for your family.

If you’re a parent or legal guardian, you can open a Mia account for an eligible child and choose to open a Junior Stocks & Shares ISA, Junior Pension, or both.

For a Junior Stocks & Shares ISA, your child must be under 18 and usually resident in the UK for tax purposes. There are some exceptions, including children living overseas with a parent who is a UK Crown servant.

If your child already has a Junior Stocks & Shares ISA with another provider, that’s okay – you can transfer it to Mia using our complimentary transfer service. A child can have both a Junior Cash ISA and Junior Stocks & Shares ISA, but the annual Junior ISA allowance is shared across them.

If your child has a Child Trust Fund, there’s an extra step. We can’t currently accept CTF transfers directly, so you’ll first need to transfer it to a digital provider that accepts CTF-to-Junior-ISA transfers, before transferring the Junior ISA to Mia.

Grandparents, godparents, aunties, uncles and friends can’t open the account on the child’s behalf, but once you’ve opened it, they can gift towards your child’s Junior Stocks & Shares ISA or Junior Pension too.

Money and investments are not held by Mia Wealth directly. Cash is held in a ring-fenced account by our trusted custodian, Seccl.

It’s common practice for investment providers to use a specialist custodian to hold client money and assets separately from the company’s own funds. This extra layer of protection means your cash and investments are kept safe, ring-fenced and remain yours.

Seccl are part of Octopus Group who manage £12bn+ in assets and are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). They safely hold your cash and investments in a ring-fenced account. Seccl is trusted by leading firms, including Monzo, to power secure investments at scale.

We get it, there are about 1,000 things to remember in everyday life.

Try searching your inboxes (and spam folder) for emails from Mia Wealth – that’s usually the quickest way to work out which email address you used.

If you’re still unsure, email us at support@miawealth.co.uk and we’ll help you get back into your account.

You can choose to leave Mia at any time – although we’ll be sorry to see you go. Because the money in your child’s Junior Stocks & Shares ISA and Junior Pension belongs to them, you can’t withdraw it yourself when you close your Mia account. Instead, you’ll need to transfer it to another provider.

Your child’s Junior Stocks & Shares ISA can be transferred to another Junior ISA provider, while their Junior Pension will need to be transferred to another provider that accepts Junior Pension transfers.

Before you leave, there’s one other important thing to know. Your child’s Memory Box – their digital collection of text, voice and video messages from the people who’ve contributed to their future, saved for them to discover when they turn 18 – won’t be available once you leave Mia. You’ll have the opportunity to download the messages you want to keep before closing your account, so those special memories don’t have to be lost.

If you’d like to close or transfer your account, contact us at support@miawealth.co.uk and we’ll help you through the next steps.

Our app gives you a clear, easy-to-use homepage where you can track yours and family and friends contributions into your child’s account. You can also use our calculator to see how regular contributions and gifts from loved ones add up over time and the projected value your child could receive at 18.

Every time you check, you can feel proud of what you’re building to give your child the best possible start.

We understand that when you’re putting money away for your child’s future, you want to know where that money is being held, who’s investing it and that you can trust the experienced investment managers behind the platform.

Mia Wealth doesn’t hold your child’s money. Your child’s money and investments are held safely with Seccl, our regulated custodian – the same provider used by Monzo for its investment service.

Then there’s the question of where to invest it.

When you’re already juggling everything that comes with raising a family, comparing lots of different funds and investment strategies can feel like another research project you simply don’t have time for.

That’s why Mia keeps it simple.

Our investment committee has selected funds from Fidelity and Aviva, two of the world’s largest investment managers, who manage trillions of pounds for millions of investors around the world.

For their Junior Stocks & Shares ISA – we’ve selected two low-cost funds, with a default based on how long your child has until they turn 18.

More than 5 years until they turn 18 – we default to the Fidelity World Index Fund, our higher-risk option designed for longer-term growth.

5 years or less until they turn 18 – we default to the Aviva Multi-Asset Core IV Fund, designed for medium-term growth.

You can change from the default fund if you’d prefer the other available option.

For their Junior Pension – your child’s money is invested in the Aviva Multi-Asset Core V Fund, designed for longer-term growth.

Important information

This isn’t financial advice. If you’re unsure which option is right for you, you may want to speak to a financial adviser. When you invest, your child’s capital is at risk and the value of investments can go down as well as up. Money paid into a Junior Stocks & Shares ISA belongs to your child and cannot normally be withdrawn until they turn 18. Money invested in a Junior Pension belongs to your child and cannot normally be accessed until the applicable minimum pension age.

Yes you can transfer your child’s Junior Stocks & Shares ISA to Mia. There’s just one step to take first.

If your partner is currently the registered contact on your child’s JISA, they’ll need to transfer this responsibility into your name before you can move the account to Mia.

Start by contacting your existing JISA provider and asking them how to change the registered contact to you. Every provider does this slightly differently, so they’ll explain exactly what you and your partner need to do.

Once you’re the registered contact, the rest is simple.

Simply head to Add Money → Transfer In in the Mia app and we’ll take it from there.

We’re nearly there!

Our team has spent the last two years finding a way to offer the Junior Pension for you as it is not widely available – did you know it is estimated less than 1% of children currently have one?!

One thing that’s really stood out in our research is how excited grandparents are about it too. For many, it’s a meaningful way to invest in their grandchild’s future and leave a financial legacy.

Want to be one of the first to know when it’s ready? Download Mia today and follow the sign up steps to join the Junior Pension waitlist.

Your child’s capital is at risk.

When your child turns 18, the money becomes theirs and they take control of the account. Their Junior Stocks & Shares ISA becomes an adult ISA, while their Junior Pension continues as an adult pension. But we know handing over something you’ve spent years building for them can feel like a big moment. That’s why the transition is designed to feel supported, not sudden.

We’re working on building an app expereince for 18 year olds (due to be live in 2027) – where guidance will help them understand what they have, the choices available to them and the value of continuing what you started. Our aim is to help them confidently take the next step and continue their own investing journey – turning the financial head start you gave them into habits that could stay with them for life.

A Junior ISA (Individual Savings Account) is a tax-free savings and/or investment account for children. The money belongs to your child and can only be accessed by them when they turn 18. It’s a way to give your child a financial head start and open up more opportunities for their future – what a gift!

There are two types of Junior ISA’s:

Junior Cash ISA:

This works a lot like a regular savings account, but the interest your child earns is tax-free. The money is kept as cash, so it’s not exposed to the ups and downs of the investment market, but with interest rates often quite low, the growth potential can be limited and unlikely to keep pace with inflation which can erode the real value of your money over time.

Junior Stocks & Shares ISA (Mia):

At Mia, your child’s money is invested in a Junior Stocks & Shares ISA. This means there’s a chance for higher growth over the years but the value will go down and up with the market.

When you invest, your child’s capital is at risk. Tax treatment is dependent on individual circumstances and is subject to change. Remember when you put money into a Junior ISA (JISA), it can only be accessed by your child once they turn 18.

We know this is an incredibly difficult thing to think about. If a child dies before turning 18, what happens to their investments depends on the type of account they hold. Children’s investments normally form part of their estate and can be paid out once the appropriate legal documentation has been provided. In exceptional circumstances, such as terminal illness, there are specific rules around accessing money early.

Yes. All cash and investments are held securely in a ring-fenced account with Seccl, our FCA-regulated investment platform provider. Seccl is part of the Octopus Group, which manages over £12bn in assets and also works with companies like Monzo and GoHenry. Your child’s money is kept completely separate from Mia Wealth’s own finances. Client money and investments are required to be held separately from Mia Wealth’s and Seccl’s own assets, so the expectation is that customers would remain entitled to the full value of their investments even in the event of insolvency.

Children’s investments are managed independently by some of the world’s largest asset managers Aviva & Fidelity used by millions. In practice, if Mia Wealth stopped operating, the investments would continue to exist and would typically be transferred to another regulated provider. If the exact same investment fund wasn’t available on the new platform, their investments would usually be moved into a similar fund – this is standard practice whenever an account is transferred between providers.

Children’s investments are also be supported by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). If Mia Wealth or Seccl were to fail and there was a shortfall in client assets, eligible investment claims are generally protected up to £85,000 per person, per firm. This does not cover normal investment market movements or losses.

Mia Wealth Limited (Mia Wealth) is an appointed representative of RiskSave Technologies Ltd, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 775330). Mia Wealth is a company registered in England and Wales (No. 15818371). Mia Wealth can be found on the Financial Conduct Authority Financial Services register under FRN 1033918.

Yes. The Government sets annual limits for both Junior ISAs and Junior Pensions.

For a Junior ISA, up to £9,000 per child, per tax year can be contributed. This includes all contributions from parents, grandparents, family and friends across both Junior Cash ISAs and Junior Stocks & Shares ISAs.

For a Junior Pension, up to £2,880 can be contributed each tax year, with the Government adding 25% bonus (basic-rate tax relief), taking the total contribution to £3,600. This limit also includes contributions made by everyone to the child’s Junior Pension.

Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change.

Most investment platforms were built for adults managing their own money, with children’s accounts added alongside hundreds or even thousands of other investment options. Mia was built the other way around – starting with your child and the people who want to help build their future.

We’ve created one simple home for your child’s Junior Stocks & Shares ISA and Junior Pension, designed to make investing for them feel easier to understand and manage – without expecting you to become an investing expert.

And because building their future doesn’t have to fall entirely on you, grandparents, godparents, aunties, uncles and friends can gift directly towards it too. They can even leave personal text, voice or video messages with their gifts which, if you choose to save them, can be added to your child’s Memory Box – their digital collection of messages from the people who’ve contributed to their future, saved for them to discover when they turn 18.

Because investing for your child shouldn’t feel like another piece of financial admin sitting on your to-do list. Mia makes it easier for the people who love them to help build their future – together.

Yes – we’d love to become the new home for your child’s wealth. Simply open your child’s Mia account and you can use our complimentary transfer service to move their existing Junior Stocks & Shares ISA across to us.

Mia is digital-only, so we only accept digital transfers – no paper forms or paperwork. This does mean your existing provider will need to support digital transfers to Mia. If you’re unsure whether they do, it is worth contacting them and ask if they offer digital JISA transfers ie without paper forms or electronic signatures.

There’s no transfer fee from Mia, although your existing provider may charge you for leaving, so it’s worth checking with them before starting the transfer.

Your child can have both a Junior Cash ISA and a Junior Stocks & Shares ISA, but they can only have one of each and the annual Junior ISA allowance is shared across them.

Once the transfer is complete, you’ll be able to manage their Junior Stocks & Shares ISA alongside their Junior Pension, if they have one, and make it easy for family and friends to contribute towards their future too.

Mia won’t be right for every child, and we want you to understand an important consideration before opening an account.

With a Junior Stocks & Shares ISA, the money belongs to your child and they become entitled to access and manage it when they turn 18. If your child does not have the mental capacity to manage their own financial affairs at that point, you may not automatically be able to manage or access the account on their behalf. Depending on their circumstances, you may need to go through the Court of Protection, which can be a lengthy legal process and involve significant costs. The same could be true for a Junior Pension which is intended for their much longer-term future and is generally inaccessible until the applicable minimum pension age.

This does not mean that a child with SEND or additional needs cannot have an account with Mia. Having SEND does not in itself determine mental capacity. However, if you have reason to believe your child may not be able to manage their own financial affairs at 18, we recommend considering this carefully and seeking appropriate specialist advice before opening a Junior ISA.

For specialist information and support around financial planning for children with SEND, you can visit https://senda.org.uk/.

If you’re unsure about how a Mia account works or whether our product is suitable for your circumstances, contact us at support@miawealth.co.uk and we’ll be happy to explain the account and its features.

If your child has a disability, learning difficulty or other vulnerability that could affect their ability to manage their own financial affairs in the future, there’s something important to consider before opening a Junior Stocks & Shares ISA and/or Junior Pension. When they turn 18, these accounts belong to them. If they don’t have the mental capacity to manage their financial affairs, you may need legal authority to manage the money on their behalf. Having SEND or additional needs does not automatically mean your child will lack mental capacity but depending on their circumstances, you may need to go through the Court of Protection, which can be a lengthy legal process and involve significant costs. For specialist information and support, visit senda.org.uk and seek advice before making a decision.

If something’s ever not right, whether it’s a mix-up with your account or you’re just unhappy with how we’ve handled something, please get in touch with us via support@miawealth.co.uk.

For information you can read our Complaints Handing Procedure on our website.

Like any investment, the value can go down as well as up, and your child could get back less than was paid in. We invest for the long term – typically 10+ years until your child turns 18 – giving their investments more time to ride out short-term market ups and downs.

Depending on the type of investment account chosen, you can cancel your platform account up to 30 days after you receive confirmation that it has been opened. Get in touch at support@miawealt.co.uk if you want to cancel your account.

We’re really sorry – we know this isn’t a nice thing to have to think about and it can be heartbreaking to experience. If you’re going through this and need any support with the account, we’re here to help so please contact us at support@miawealth.co.uk.

If a parent dies, the child’s account itself isn’t affected. It stays open and invested for their future. What changes is who manages the account on their behalf. Another person with parental responsibility, such as the other parent or a guardian named in a will, can apply to become the new registered contact. The money remains your child’s and they still won’t be able to access it until they turn 18.

We know separation or divorce can be an incredibly difficult time for a family, and the last thing you need is added worry about your child’s account. If you need any support, we’re here to help. The account belongs to your child, not to either parent, so it isn’t treated as a shared asset to be divided between you. Day-to-day control of the account stays with the registered contact.

We only collect what we need to open and run the account. You can find a detailed breakdown in our Privacy Policy on our website.

We hope you’re having a lovely break! Yes you can add money to a Mia account whilst on holiday, assuming the money is sent from a UK regulated bank account.

Parents can get started from a one off £20 or a regular monthly contribution from £20 a month and gifters can contribute from £10. We know family finances change – from nursery fees and maternity leave to everything else life throws at you – so you can choose an amount that feels manageable for your family and adjust it when you need to.

Yes. Regular monthly contributions start from £20, and from there you can choose an amount in £5 increments – for example £20, £25, £30 or £35 a month. Choose an amount that feels manageable for your family and you can always change it as life and your finances change.

Yes – because what feels manageable for your family can change. You can update your monthly contribution at any time in the app by clicking on your child’s account from the home page. Contributions start from £20 a month and can be changed in £5 increments. Changes will usually take effect from the 1st of the next month, although if you make a change towards the end of the month, it may take effect the following month instead.

You can cancel your monthly contribution at any time in the Mia app. We also recommend cancelling the Direct Debit with your bank, as changes can take a few days to process and we wouldn’t want another payment to be collected when you’re not expecting it. If you’re unsure or need a hand, contact us at support@miawealth.co.uk.

Monthly contributions are usually collected on the 1st of each month. If you set yours up towards the end of the month, we’ll do our best to have it ready for the next 1st, but this will depend on your bank’s processing times. If it can’t be set up in time, don’t worry – it’ll simply start the following month.

Gifting

Who can gift to a child’s account with Mia Wealth?

It doesn’t have to be just parents building their future. Family and friends – including grandparents, godparents, aunties, uncles and others who care about your child – can contribute to their Junior Stocks & Shares ISA or Junior Pension.

The first time they gift, simply share your child’s unique gifting link from the Mia app. After that, they can download Mia, see the children they gift to and contribute again directly from the app whenever they want – no need to ask you for the link each time.

They’ll just need a UK bank account to make a contribution.

No – there’s no fee for family and friends to make a gift. Gifts start from just £10. After their first gift, they can download the Mia app for free to see all the children they gift to in one place, keep track of their gifting history and easily contribute again whenever they want.

Once you’ve opened your child’s Junior Stocks & Shares ISA or Junior Pension with Mia, you can simply share their unique gifting link from the Mia app with grandparents, godparents, aunties, uncles, friends or anyone else who wants to contribute.

They can use the link to make their first gift from just £10. After that, they can download the Mia app for free, see the children they gift to and contribute again whenever they want – so you don’t have to keep sending the link every time.

They can also leave a personal text, voice or video message with their gift. If you choose to save it, it can be added to your child’s Memory Box – their digital collection of messages from the people who’ve contributed to their future, saved for them to discover when they turn 18.

Alongside something to unwrap, family and friends can give towards your child’s future with a contribution that has the potential to grow with them. And with our Memory Box feature, they can leave voice and video messages for your child to unlock when they’re 18 – so they’ll know who helped build their future and why.

Yes – where they live doesn’t stop them from being able to gift. As long as they have a UK bank account that can be used through our payment process, they can use your child’s unique gifting link to contribute towards their Junior Stocks & Shares ISA and/or Junior Pension.

No – you don’t need to download the Mia app to make your first gift. Simply use the child’s unique gifting link shared with you by their parent or legal guardian and you can gift from just £10.

Afterwards, you can choose to download the Mia app for free. You’ll be able to see all the children you gift to in one place, keep track of your gifting history and easily gift again whenever you want – without needing to ask the parent for their gifting link again.

You can make one-off gifts from starting from £10. Monthly contributions are coming soon, so you’ll also be able to set up an amount to contribute automatically.

Not at all – leaving a message is completely optional. If you’d like to make your gift more personal, you can add a text, voice or video message. Once approved by the parent, they have the option to save the message in the child’s Memory Box for them to discover when they’re 18 years old – a little reminder of the person and story behind the gift.

No a gifter won’t be notified whether a message has been approved or deleted.

Yes! You can gift to as many children as you’d like. The first time you gift to a child, you’ll use their unique gifting link sent to you by their parent. After that, you can see all the children you gift to together in the Mia app and contribute again directly whenever you want. If you’re also a parent using Mia, you’ll see your own children alongside the other children you gift to – so everyone whose future you’re helping to build is in one place.

Yes. Every gift can include a personal text, voice or video message, making it about more than just the money. Messages are reviewed and approved by the parent with the option of being saved safely in a child’s Memory Box, ready for them to unlock when they’re older. So one day, they can discover not just the gifts that helped build their future, but the people, messages and memories behind them too.

Yes! We’ve listened to parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and friends who told us they wanted to feel more connected to the children whose futures they’re helping to build.

In the Mia app, you can see all the children you’re investing or gifting for in one place. So if you’re a parent, you can see your own children alongside any other children you gift to. And if you’re a grandparent, auntie, uncle or friend, you can see all the children you gift to together, along with your gifting history.

You can also leave voice, video or text and photo messages with your gifts for each child to unlock when they’re older – so one day, they can see not just what was given, but the people and memories behind it.
